Cheap Laptop is Great for the Basics

A cheap laptop from HP is available for $424 at Dick Smith Electronics in Australia. The HP Pavilion G62-454TU is one of the most affordable 15.6 inch notebooks ever offered, but that is because the dated Intel Pentium P6200 (2.13 GHz) inside can't compare to the latest generation of Core and Sandy Bridge CPUs.

With a measly 2GB of RAM it will handle productivity applications acceptably one at a time, but try two or more and it's likely to slow to a glacial pace. Given the price, it's a good PC for handling the basics. If you need a machine with a big screen to read your emails, surf the web and perhaps run the occasional Office application this will certainly do the job, although its 320 GB hard drive is also on the small side.
